People want power and control. They want money. Most of them know that at the end of their life it will mean nothing. At present it seems to satisfy everything. But why? Why do they want it?
Security. Ok, why do they want that? Freedom. Why that? Why do we want anything? Why those things?
To God be all glory.
Whether someone's desire for power or money is wrong depends on the motivation. The vast majority want these things for selfish reasons, to gratify themselves in one way or another.
ReplyDeleteBut it is possible to desire money or power for right reasons. Money is a tool, as power is a tool, and it can be used for good or evil. Some might desire wealth in order to have the resources to help others. Money can do a lot of good if it is used the right way.
The tricky thing is, it is hard for us to know our own selves. We can kid ourselves about our motives and not even realize it. So a person who is a Christian can delude himself into thinking his only motive for wanting money is to help others, and yet a big part of his motive is to be able to enjoy the wealth himself.
God warns that those who desire to be rich may be bringing suffering on themselves (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
