Ten babies died today.
No scientists are desperately searching for a cure to their cause of death.
No autopsies were done to determine time of death. No one even writes a death certificate.
This is because the babies were never born.
But they are not in my imagination. They are not less than babies, or less than people. Death. Huge, permanent loss whose repercussions we can’t even project, yet not one is even given a funeral, but that does not mean they are not mourned.
Ten witnesses stood today.
We desperately pleaded for their innocent lives, and grieved their slaughter.
We were on our knees until end of life, with hands held out begging: we were gathered for life this morning.
This is because the babies were conceived, given by God for a purpose.
But they are not remembered. They are like so many deaths, so many days, so regular that we want to forget and so normal that we almost can. Lives. Tiny, mysterious existences we don’t even understand, whose potential we can’t even project, were cut short today.
I cannot forget.
To God be all glory.
And what did God do?
ReplyDeleteThis God to whom we give glory.
God went on being God:
loving,
merciful,
just,
beyond our understanding,
by letting some people choose...
*Sigh* I don't understand.
"God's will is bigger than one circumstance."
Those choiceless babies, now dead, had a purpose?
"What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: and that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?" -Romans 9:22-24
"Endured with much longsuffering, the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction" ?
I try to give God glory, because I know He's the only one who ultimately deserves it,
but He doesn't very often make Himself all that easy to understand.
May God grant us wisdom and strength, that we may continue to glorify Him.

What...exactly happened?
ReplyDeleteMy brother and I, some friends, and some strangers (ten in all) stood outside an abortion clinic - yes, with signs, and yes, we said things out loud, trying to get the moms to stop and listen, to realize what they were doing, to take literature about unborn life, and direct them to free help in keeping their babies. I should take pictures of the place. It is a beautiful brick building, with trees and landscaping, and a huge parking lot. The important parking lot, where the mothers park, is along the front of the building: a row of spaces facing the building and a row facing the street. Streetside there is a pretty spear-topped iron fence to which black woven tarps have been screwed and attached with plastic ties. The entrance to the parking lot is off the main roads, and we the witnesses line the sidewalk and stand at the driveway offering literature and help and prayers. Even as they are inside the parking lot, we climb ladders to be able to see them and talk to them (my friends and I don't yell senseless things, but we do get the word out that babies whose hearts beat die in there: violent, painful deaths, and that God hates the hands that shed innocent blood, that abortion causes increased risk of breast cancer, etc.). The rest of us stand with our hands to the black tarp, which we can see through if we get close enough, and plead with the women or just pray.
ReplyDeleteAnd all except one day I've been there, every single person has gone right on in and stayed in until their baby is gone. I hear stories of other moms who changed their minds. But I've only seen one. So that's why MAC, my brother, doesn't understand God letting people choose. And why we need some outlet for the sorrow and helplessness we feel.
I waited to go physically to an abortion clinic until I knew I had enough self-control to follow the laws for protestors. But I just want the problem to go away. There's no explanation to me even for why humans would do this, let alone for how it fits into God's plan.
